Sonam Tobgay is a Hospitality Trainer at Kingston International College in Australia. He began his journey in culinary arts after completing his higher secondary school in Bhutan. He pursued a diploma in Culinary Arts in Malaysia, where he trained for two years and worked as a junior Sous Chef in two top restaurants. His dedication and hard work paid off as he gained invaluable experience and honed his skills in multi-cuisine cooking.
In 2019, Sonam returned to Bhutan and worked at Zhiwaling Ascent, a luxury resort known for its gourmet dining experiences. His passion for cooking extended beyond the kitchen. In 2020, he joined De-suung training and served in voluntary roles like border duty and essential delivery services, demonstrating his dedication to community service.
In 2021, Sonam was selected as a trainer for the “Culinary Arts: Multi Cuisine” program at the De-Suung Skilling Program in Gaylpozhing. He trained four batches in Culinary Arts, sharing his knowledge and skills with aspiring chefs. Additionally, he contributes a Bhutanese menu to Tashi Delek, the Royal Bhutan Airlines inflight magazine, showcasing the flavors and diversity of Bhutanese cuisine.
Sonam’s passion and dedication in culinary arts won him a position as a trainer at Kingston International College through a competitive interview process. He continues to inspire and motivate aspiring chefs, sharing his experience and expertise in multi-cuisine cooking and menu planning and development. Sonam’s journey is a testament to the power of passion and dedication, showing that with hard work and perseverance, one can achieve their dreams and make a positive impact on their community.
